Anti CAN-jack — automotive cybersecurity and a new type of digital protection

Automotive cybersecurity aims to prevent theft and other criminal activities caused by deliberate interference with the operation of the car's digital buses. It includes detection and prevention of changes to standard security systems, unauthorized reading of diagnostic data and reconfiguration of electronic systems.

AUTHOR is a leader in the field of automotive cybersecurity. We were the first in the world to develop products with digital anti-theft methods and we are constantly improving them. As experts in this field, we understand the importance of protecting cars from new digital threats.

What are these threats?

Modern cars can be called "advanced computers on wheels". Digitalization has reached such a level that methods similar to PC hacker attacks are also used for car theft. In this context, the role of the Internet is played by the car’s digital data buses — CAN or LIN, and the targets are Keyless Access systems and other standard security systems.

As a result, the car can automatically be disarmed, the central lock unlocked, the ignition turned on, and the engine started without any keys. In some cases, connecting hacker equipment to the car's data bus does not require entering the car's interior, and the hacking process itself takes only a few seconds.

Anti CAN-jack and how it works

Anti CAN-jack is a new patented algorithm implemented in AUTHOR's digital security and anti-theft systems. Unlike other blocking types, the algorithm does not affect the operation of the engine or gearbox, but it automatically detects and blocks hacker commands that the intruder sends to the CAN bus. Thus, it prevents hacking of Toyota and Lexus standard security systems (and others in the future).

The algorithm does not require any configuration or dedicated control. In the Armed mode, it is automatically enabled, and it is disabled right after the system is disarmed or switched to the Service or Transport modes. Working in combination with other digital and analog blocking types, Anti CAN-jack has become an essential part of car cybersecurity.
