Tracking features in Compass
Tracking features in Compass
Dear users and partners,

We are happy to announce the launch of the Tracking feature for COMPASS GSM device
Our main business is to develop and manufacture IGLA-based digital anti-theft systems. This is the cornerstone on which we have built the modular interaction concept. This made it possible to implement the most flexible and efficient anti-theft or security and telematic set for cars. Such sets of devices meet the highest car security requirements. Coupled with the COMPASS GSM module, they offer car owners everything they need for remote control, as well as management of security and comfort features: engine auto-start, for example.

An important feature of any modern security and telematic set is the ability to get detailed reports on the route, travel time, and speed on various tracks in a user-friendly format.

Until recently, the COMPASS module displayed only the car's current location in the mobile application and in the personal account on the web portal. The Tracking feature allows not only to meet the current standards of car telematics for our products but also to provide car owners with advanced control over the car. It also helps us further expand the range of services for our clients, including for commercials.

Description

Now the owners of telematic systems based on COMPASS GSM module can view their trip history coupled with detailed routes in both the AUTHOR CONNECT mobile application and their personal account on the web portal*.

Currently, the feature allows to:
- View your trip history for a selected period.
- Preview tracks in the general list.
- Highlight favorite trips and set your own names for selected routes.
- View your trip details: duration, distance, and average speed.
- Enjoy color indication of the driving speed at different track sections.

Installers and advanced users may benefit from more settings that allow to set:
- Frequency of detecting your car's GPS coordinates**.
- Frequency of transferring coordinates to the server**(once per 5 seconds by default).

*For fleet project

**You can change these settings to achieve the right balance between detailed track information and traffic consumption.

The feature is available right now and does not require any extra payments (except for the payment for consumed traffic).

Technical requirements

To be able to use the Tracking feature, your equipment must meet the following requirements:
1. COMPASS GSM module, firmware V1.1.17 or higher.
2. Either IGLA/IGLA ALARM/IGLA C paired with the module or the AUTOSTART system.
3. AUTHOR CONNECT V1.14 application (starting from Android 5.0 and iOS 10.0).

Important! To ensure correct operation, update IGLA firmware to V3.9.0 or higher, and AUTOSTART firmware — to V1.3.1.

For users of smartphones operated by iOS: once you have updated the AUTHOR CONNECT mobile application to Version 1.14, sign in again to your account. This requirement is due to Apple's privacy policy.

What is the maximum duration of track recording and what happens when it ends?

Tracks are recorded without interruptions for 24 hours. Once this period exceeded, a track ends and a new one starts.

Under which conditions does track recording stop and how long can the stop last, so the recording remains uninterrupted?

Track recording stops 15 minutes after ignition is turned off or connection is lost.

Which trips can I add to favorites?

This feature is useful when looking for a popular or important route. For example, while on vacations, you visited an interesting place that you had not been to before. Not to forget the route, you added it to favorites.

Will the Tracking feature remain available on IGLA+COMPASS/ATLAS sets if I update the mobile application only?

ATLAS: yes, but the effect of "jumping coordinates" will appear.

COMPASS with firmware V1.1.17 and higher: yes, but the effect of "jumping coordinates" will appear.

COMPASS with firmware lower than V1.1.17: the tracking feature will not work.

Will the Tracking feature remain available on IGLA+COMPASS/ATLAS sets if I update the mobile application and the COMPASS/ATLAS firmware while not updating the IGLA firmware?

Yes, but the effect of "jumping coordinates" will appear.

Which changes have occurred in the web portal functionality? Which countries will have access to the Tracking feature on the web portal?

We have added a new tab where you can view device tracks. The new feature will be available to all countries.

*The effect of "jumping coordinates" occurs due to a GPS signal error. The track is displayed incorrectly while the car is parked with the engine running. The fix for equipment on legacy software will be included in the next update of the tracking feature.
